A Criteria Corp Case Study
A western U.S. credit union sought to improve its quality-of-hire for teller positions, which represented the bulk of its annual hiring, and needed a reliable screening method to identify candidates who would perform well on the job.
They implemented the Criteria Basic Skills Test (CBST) to screen applicants and compared test scores to manager performance ratings for 61 tellers. CBST scores correlated significantly with performance (r = .42); 96% of high scorers (37–40) were rated “good” (3.0+) versus 58% of low scorers (1–36), a 49% advantage for high scorers and a 0.7 SD higher average performance. Preferring high CBST scorers led to higher productivity and reduced turnover.
