InnoGames, creator of the mobile strategy title Forge of Empires, faced rising acquisition costs and higher CPIs that threatened ROI. To boost revenue from existing players and improve ARPU, the company tested whether Criteo performance marketing could deliver incremental returns.
A one-month A/B test randomly split players between InnoGames in-app ads and other Criteo in-app ads; the InnoGames-targeted ads drove a clear uplift: +16.8% conversion rate and a 2.02x incremental ROI. As a result, Criteo in-app retargeting improved ARPU and ROI and has been incorporated into InnoGames’ marketing strategy.
