Caleres, a $2.8B St. Louis-based footwear company that operates 13 branded sites and 900+ Famous Footwear stores, needed to modernize ecommerce for a complex catalog of more than 600,000 SKUs. Their legacy search and discovery stack relied on thousands of manual rules, struggled with BOPIS and local inventory, and left merchandisers without the data or flexibility to optimize on-site search, listings, and recommendations.

Caleres implemented Coveo’s AI search and recommendations across a phased 13-site rollout, adding machine-learning relevance tuning, smarter facets, and ML-powered product recommendations and BOPIS capabilities. The result: a 21% YoY revenue increase from Coveo Search and a 74% YoY lift from Coveo Recommendations, with conversion rates rising (one brand saw a ~25% lift) and visitors using ML search converting about 20–25% higher than on the legacy platform.
