CAIJ raises the bar with Coveo’s personalized website search

The Centre d’accès à l’information juridique (CAIJ) is a network of 40 libraries serving Quebec’s legal professionals through the JuriBistro suite of research tools. CAIJ struggled with scattered, siloed content across multiple databases and formats (HTML, MARC), forcing users to choose the right portal and adapt queries, increasing search time and training overhead for staff.

CAIJ implemented Coveo’s unified indexing and search (JuriBistro UNIK), which consolidated ~1 million documents, auto-extracted legal metadata with SmartFacets, and provided a single, personalized search interface. In the first year usage rose sharply: average visit duration +67%, visitors +18%, page views +33%, and search queries doubled; the project also won regional awards for its impact on legal research.
