Case Study: Irvine Unified School District achieves personalized, scalable staff learning with Cornerstone OnDemand

The Irvine Unified School District creates a new kind of classroom

Irvine Unified School District, one of California’s fastest-growing yet lowest-funded public school districts, needed a better way to onboard and train staff while supporting personalized professional learning for more than 37,000 students across 43 schools. The district partnered with Cornerstone OnDemand and used Cornerstone Learning, which they rebranded as Compass, to create a more flexible, engaging, and classroom-like learning environment for teachers and administrators.

Cornerstone OnDemand helped IUSD launch Compass within four months and build a customized LMS with branded resources, instructor-led training tools, and on-demand learning paths. The district created 60 branded resource documents and more than 180 unique curriculums, while automation replaced much of the manual training work. During the COVID-19 shift to distance learning, the platform supported nearly 2,000 completions within days, helping district-wide professional learning continue at scale.
