STCU, a U.S. credit union founded in 1934 with about 630 employees, prides itself on a strong development culture but struggled with an outdated LMS that employees saw as a compliance tool. That negative perception blocked the credit union’s move from push-based training to self-directed learning and created administrative, tracking, and reporting pain points.

After a formal RFP STCU chose Cornerstone for its content library, flexibility and integrations, launched a branded experience called “EmpowerU,” and overhauled processes around content and UX. Within nine months self-directed learning jumped to 700 hours (from under 20), the organization tracked 18,000 hours of training in 2018, adoption and engagement rose, reporting became one‑click, and administrators reclaimed time to focus on strategic L&D.
