Penn State Health increasing nurse confidence & compassion through online training

Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a 9,500-employee hospital recognized among Becker’s “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare,” prioritizes both patient experience and ongoing staff development. Delivering and tracking training had been difficult: courses were promoted by flyers and held in person (hard for night-shift staff), and on-the-job evaluations were paper-based, requiring manual data entry and creating inconsistencies.

In 2014 Hershey implemented Cornerstone Learning to create a one-stop, anytime-access learning hub that centralizes e-learning, mandatory training, and equipment/procedure resources. The system standardized new-hire orientation, simplified bedside performance observations with automated data capture, and made compliance tracking easier — boosting nurse confidence and compassion, igniting employee engagement, and streamlining competency management.
