Increasing Training Compliance & Performance Completion Rates

Sam Houston State University (founded 1879) is a Texas public university with more than 20,000 students across seven colleges and a satellite campus. A push for expanded professional development exposed major gaps: training was fragmented across campus, HR tracked courses and rosters in Excel, and a legacy system made mandatory compliance difficult — all of which consumed HR resources and hindered visibility.

SHSU implemented Ellucian Talent Management powered by Cornerstone OnDemand — first the Learning module and later Cornerstone Performance and Connect — to centralize learning and performance. The change delivered clear results: 100% EEO training compliance, performance appraisal completion rates rose from ~89–90% to 96%, 966 attendees completed instructor-led training and 898 users finished 3,061 Skillsoft courses, onboarding was streamlined without added resources, and the faculty tenure/promotion process now requires less paperwork and improves committee communication.
