Creating a Positive Candidate Experience, While Reducing Manual Work for Managers

Boston College, a private Jesuit university founded in 1863, struggled with an antiquated applicant system that made screening 150–175 applicants per job slow and highly manual. Managers spent hours downloading, printing and sorting resumes, while candidates were often timed out or left unsure whether their applications were received.

The college implemented Cornerstone Recruiting, Onboarding and Learning and launched MAJC, a streamlined, user-friendly applicant portal with LinkedIn-like features and one-screen processes. The new system delivered a markedly better candidate experience, reduced managers’ manual workload and complaint volume, and allowed Boston College to more effectively showcase its culture and values.
