Case Study: South32 achieves standardised, portfolio-wide project controls and improved data integrity with Contruent

A Contruent Case Study

Preview of the South32 Case Study

Supporting Major Projects & Studies from Pre-Feasibility to Execution

South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company managing roughly 30 major projects that collectively exceed A$2B, faced fragmented project controls across multiple countries and heavy reliance on MS Excel that caused data integrity issues and wasted project controls time on manual collection and validation. To address the need for standardisation, consistent cost control, collaboration and better reporting, South32 selected Contruent and its project controls software (cost, engineering and contracts management) as the vehicle for their digitalisation journey.

Contruent was implemented to centralise data, standardise coding and imports, reduce spreadsheet dependence and provide robust reporting, masking, grouping and import capabilities with drill-down traceability and PowerBI exportability. The Contruent rollout delivered consistency and transparency across the portfolio, improved data quality, measurable time savings for managers and teams, and raised South32’s project controls maturity—shifting the team from manual validation toward higher-value analysis and advisory work.
