A Consumer Goods Technology Case Study
Panasonic Consumer Electronics, a subsidiary of Matsushita, faced major supply chain issues due to the rapid shift from analog to digital technology. This change increased new product introductions and led to outdated retailer inventory. Their top customers demanded a more reliable system to reduce lead times, challenging the company's spreadsheet-based forecasting. To address this, Panasonic partnered with vendor i2 to implement its Supply Chain Management solution.
The solution from i2 provided an end-to-end process that utilized point-of-sale data for true demand forecasting and replenishment. Panasonic also established a competency center in India for detailed analysis and collaboration. As a result, on-time delivery increased to 84% and in-stock rates reached 90%. Most significantly, inventory was reduced from 17 weeks to just 4 weeks. This success earned Panasonic Tier 1 status with its retail partners and enhanced customer loyalty.
