Constellation Brands, a major wine and spirits company, faced a significant challenge in obtaining a complete, timely view of its product performance due to fragmented data from its three-tier distribution model. This lack of integrated data from shipments, depletions, and retail points of sale made intelligent business and promotional decisions difficult. To address this, they partnered with Consumer Goods Technology and implemented IBM Cognos 8 BI as a core component of their new analytical framework.
The solution involved Consumer Goods Technology helping Constellation build a comprehensive data warehouse and a front-end reporting tool called BAR (Business Analysis and Reporting). This provided a single source of truth for internal data. They also developed a proprietary tool named ATLAS to securely integrate retailer point-of-sale data. The results included significant time savings by eliminating manual spreadsheet work, enabling better alignment of promotions with outcomes, and fostering more insightful category management relationships with retail partners.
