TEC’s Transit Modernization Initiative Expands Public Transit Use and Streamlines Mobilit

The customer, TEC (Wallonia Transport Operator), faced the challenge of modernizing its fragmented public transit network across southern Belgium. Five different operating companies required separate tickets, complicating travel for users. TEC's "Go Digital" initiative aimed to consolidate services, simplify mobility, and gain deeper insights into traveler behavior to improve its offerings. They partnered with the vendor Conduent to address these challenges.

Conduent implemented its ATLAS® contactless ticketing system and later its Mobility Analytics Platform (MAP). The solution included infrastructure like validators and vending machines, creating a unified, interoperable fare system. As a result, registered users grew by 25% to 620,000 in the first year, ticketing costs were reduced, and service quality improved. Conduent's MAP also provided valuable data visualizations, eliminating the need for manual surveys and enabling TEC to optimize its network based on user habits.
