A Conduent Case Study
The Government of Puebla sought to enhance its bus rapid transit system by increasing capacity and improving the rider experience with a new, more reliable electronic fare collection system. Facing the need to upgrade two existing lines and a new third line, they turned to vendor Conduent for a solution built on contactless smart card technology.
Conduent implemented its fare collection system, replacing all field equipment across the network and connecting it to a new central system. This provided a new interoperable smart card for all three BRT lines, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly throughout the network. The transition for each line was completed in a record three to six months without disrupting service. The city also benefited from a Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) concession model, which removed the obligation for it to invest in new assets while receiving operational support from Conduent for nine years.
