Puebla Increases Transit Access with Multimodal and Interoperable Fare and Fleet Management Technology

Carreteras de Cuota Puebla, the agency in charge of mass transportation for the State of Puebla, Mexico, faced challenges with its growing RUTA BRT system. The issues included a lack of interoperability between lines with incompatible technologies, inaccurate revenue tracking, and the need to integrate a tourist train and expand its reload network and fleet management capabilities. They partnered with Conduent Transportation to address these problems.

Conduent implemented a state-of-the-art electronic fare collection system featuring a Single Transport Card that is interoperable across all BRT lines and the tourist train. The solution also included an expansive external reload network and a Fleet Management and Control Center for real-time monitoring. The results were significant, with Line 1 ridership increasing 142% and Line 2 ridership increasing 24%, providing a versatile and efficient system poised for future growth.
