Case Study: City of Puebla achieves interoperable contactless fare collection with Conduent Transportation

A Conduent Case Study

City of Puebla boosts BRT Line 1 frequency by 65% with Conduent

The City of Puebla, Mexico, faced the challenge of increasing the frequency of its main bus rapid transit line by 65% to serve more riders. To enhance the rider experience, the city needed to improve its fare collection equipment and make travel across its network easier. They engaged vendor Conduent Transportation to implement a new solution.

Conduent implemented a new contactless smart card electronic fare collection system across Puebla's BRT lines, replacing all field equipment and connecting it to a centralized system. The transition was completed in a record 3 to 6 months per line without disrupting service. The results provided full interoperability for riders across all three lines and allowed the city to adopt a Build, Operate, Transfer concession model with Conduent, eliminating the need for the city to invest in new assets while ensuring long-term technical and operational support.
