Preview of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Case Study

A closer look at the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit

Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit faced the challenge of building a modern, aesthetically pleasing 51-kilometer metro line in Kuala Lumpur, which needed to seamlessly integrate with the existing Light Rail Transit system. A key requirement was the support of the Touch ‘n Go card and local token sales, all while meeting a government mandate to provide 30% of the contract to local businesses. Conduent Transportation was engaged to provide a solution using its ATLAS fare collection platform.

Conduent delivered a customized fare collection system, providing 350 high-design gates and 280 vending machines, while meeting the local sourcing requirement by working with Malaysian businesses for manufacturing and installation. The result was a fully operational metro line with a modern ticketing system that carries hundreds of thousands of passengers daily. Ridership grew dramatically from over 3 million monthly riders in 2017 to nearly 64 million annual riders in 2019, demonstrating the project's success for Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit.
