Salling Group - Customer Case Study

Salling Group, Denmark’s largest retailer with more than 1,600 shops and multiple brands (føtex, Bilka, Netto, Salling, Wupti), needed to strengthen its omnichannel experience and escape a costly, hard-to-scale SAP Hybris monolith that limited speed and talent recruitment. To modernize, Salling Group adopted commercetools’ headless, API-first commerce platform as the core of a composable stack (with Magnolia CMS, microservices, APIs and Jamstack) to enable mobile-first UX and brand-specific online shops.

commercetools’ headless architecture enabled a microservice-based, composable solution that consolidated sites on one platform and sped development and releases. As a result, time-to-market for new web shops fell to two months, eCommerce costs dropped by 75%, basket response times are ~140 ms, release cycles moved from biweekly to multiple times per day, and the platform scaled to support a 150% Click & Collect surge and a 30% traffic increase without added operational costs.
