Case Study: Apollo-Optik achieves rapid, flexible headless commerce and bi-weekly releases with commercetools

A commercetools Case Study

Preview of the Apollo-Optik Case Study

Looking ahead with better eCommerce

Apollo-Optik, Germany’s largest eyewear retailer with around 900 stores, needed to replace a slow, inflexible Hybris/Oracle monolithic online shop with a scalable, customizable platform. They chose commercetools as a headless backend and Frontastic for the frontend to decouple presentation from commerce logic and enable rapid changes with minimal programming.

Using commercetools together with Frontastic, Apollo-Optik launched the new shop six months after starting implementation, moved to biweekly releases, and eliminated disruptive crashes thanks to the headless architecture. The commercetools-based solution delivered measurable business impact — faster feature rollouts (new product categories like home-office glasses, a contact-lens subscription), quick digital services (visual value match), and continuity of sales during lockdown.
