Case Study: Zoro.com achieves scalable, reliable eCommerce with commercetools

A commercetools Case Study

Preview of the Zoro Case Study

How Zoro.com leverages the flexibility and scalability of MACH® to deliver commerce experiences that exceed customer expectations and drive business growth

Zoro.com, the SMB-focused eCommerce arm created by W.W. Grainger, was struggling to scale its platform as it moved from a 4–5 million–item catalog toward 20+ million SKUs: customers experienced slow logins, checkouts and order tracking, and account data was vulnerable when the ERP went down. To speed time-to-market and modernize their commerce stack, Zoro selected commercetools’ eCommerce SaaS/MACH solution as a core vendor.

Zoro implemented a headless, microservices-based MACH architecture that combined its cloud-native, API-first services with commercetools for cart, orders and checkout, rolling the platform out in 5% user increments. The commercetools-powered platform now tracks orders, carts and intermediate states, has proven reliable at scale, and notably protected thousands of orders during a 24-hour third‑party outage.
