How Cazoo launched a new way to (re-)buy cars online with a seamless multi-payment system

Cazoo, a UK-based online used-car retailer that buys, reconditions and delivers cars, needed to build a new commerce platform from scratch to ensure a seamless customer experience and support rapid growth. Cazoo partnered with commercetools and adopted its cloud-native, headless commerce platform with a serverless, microservices-based architecture to enable flexible checkout and multiple payment options.

commercetools implemented a scalable microservices solution and advanced checkout that allows customers to pay for a single car using multiple payment methods and to sell across web, mobile and brick‑and‑mortar touchpoints. The platform launched in December 2020, quickly drove adoption of multi-payment orders, and—per commercetools—played a role in Cazoo’s rapid rise to unicorn status while supporting ongoing expansion.
