BMW Group, the Munich‑based premium automaker and mobility services provider, faced the challenge of delivering fast, globally consistent commerce across multiple brands and touchpoints while integrating with existing OMS, CMS and bespoke in‑house systems. To future‑proof digital customer experiences and support bookable services like Connected Drive and maintenance, BMW Group chose commercetools’ cloud‑native, headless Composable Commerce platform.
commercetools built a proof‑of‑concept in spring 2020 and deployed the solution incrementally (first go‑live March 2021), enabling API‑based integration with BMW Group’s inventory, payment and data management systems. Within eight months BMW Group completed 100 deployments on a “versionless” architecture, significantly cutting maintenance effort, accelerating feature rollout and enabling new offerings (for example virtual products like digital license plates) and additional customer touchpoints.
