dodenhof, northern Germany’s largest shopping center (founded 1910, ~2,500 employees), faced the challenge of entering online retail late and needed a flexible, future‑proof e-commerce foundation to catch up with competitors and support future growth. To meet this need, dodenhof chose commercetools’ cloud‑based microservices commerce platform, working with partners Shopmacher and KOMMERZ to design a scalable, customizable solution.
Using the commercetools platform (connected to Shopmacher’s Commerce Cockpit and SAP via an e2e Scheer bridge), the team launched dodenhof’s first online shop in about 4.5 months, enabling the retailer to manage content in‑house, iterate product assortments, and pursue a broader digitization roadmap (mobile POS, voice, social commerce). commercetools delivered measurable impact through rapid time‑to‑market, cloud scalability, greater operational independence, and a solid technical cornerstone for ongoing digital expansion.
