Cloud Transformation Application Suitability Assessment and Migration

A global mass media, publishing and entertainment company engaged Cognizant to consolidate data centers for 19 business units across North America and the UK and to assess the feasibility of moving to cloud/XaaS models. The objective was to evaluate 1,800 applications on 2,800 servers for cost savings, improved performance, greater flexibility and faster time-to-market while maintaining security and compliance.

Using its Cloud Steps framework, Cognizant delivered a phased migration plan recommending roughly 40–45% of workloads move to a mix of co-location and AWS IaaS, with automation and standardization to enforce security and repeatability. To date 122+ applications and 445+ servers have been migrated to AWS landing zones and VMware colo environments, yielding a >25% reduction in data center footprint, cost reductions of more than 50% for some business units, faster product delivery, improved scalability and stronger disaster recovery.
