Bringing Software for the Digital Economy to the Automotive Industry

Cognizant Digital Engineering partnered with a global vehicle manufacturer to address industry disruption from autonomous tech, ride-hailing and changing consumer habits. Research into more than 100 SUV owners revealed a clear human need—outdoor experiences with family and friends—that was thwarted by logistical barriers like coordinating schedules, finding activities, booking reservations and acquiring or learning to use gear.

Using an Insight to Code approach, Cognizant built a production-ready mobile app MVP in six weeks that centralizes scheduling, activity discovery, directions, equipment rental/delivery and “how-to” guidance, then refined it through customer testing. Testers reported the app made planning adventures dramatically easier (reducing key barriers by more than 90%), increased perceived SUV value and unlocked new revenue opportunities—now being field-tested with potential revenue-sharing partnerships.
