MediaMarkt - Customer Case Study

MediaMarkt, the Dutch electronics retailer, wanted to make in-store mobile subscription sign-ups faster and less intrusive for customers. As an intermediary for telecom subscriptions, it had to verify identity and sometimes perform an income and expenses check, a process that took around 20 minutes and required employees to manually collect and copy sensitive documents. CM.com provided digital identification and authentication services, including iDIN, One Time Password by SMS, and IBAN verification.

Together with CM.com, MediaMarkt introduced a mobile-first onboarding flow that lets customers verify identity and banking details on their own phone via SMS or QR code. The process uses a €0.01 iDEAL payment, iDIN for personal details, and income verification in the customer’s banking environment, removing the need for paper copies and manual data entry. The result is a more customer-friendly, GDPR-compliant process expected to reduce sign-up time from 20 minutes to 2–3 minutes, while increasing satisfaction and lowering staff pressure.
