The Bay Lights improves resource utilization 100% with Cloudflare

The Bay Lights, a public light art installation on the San Francisco Bay Bridge, faced the challenge of ensuring its website could handle a massive surge in traffic for its official unveiling event. The project's lead developer reached out to vendor Cloudflare to prepare TheBayLights.org, utilizing their Content Delivery Network (CDN) and web optimization services.

Cloudflare implemented a 'Cache Everything' solution, which served the entire site from its global network to protect the customer's infrastructure. This resulted in the site successfully handling the traffic surge with a 100% improvement in resource utilization; during the peak traffic hour, the site's average I/O was under 2Mb/s despite the large influx of visitors.
