SurePrep Leverages Cloudflare to Make Load Balancing Less Taxing

SurePrep, a tax-data processing company serving more than 20,000 tax professionals and consumers via its TaxCaddy product, was outgrowing its IaaS-based load balancing and facing bandwidth limits, manual, labor-intensive infrastructure management, and the need for automated DDoS mitigation—while also requiring vendor approval because of sensitive customer data.

Deploying Cloudflare through the IBM partnership gave SurePrep an approved, easy-to-deploy platform for load balancing, WAF, DDoS protection, Argo routing, and Cloudflare Workers. The result: engineers now manage 35–40 servers during peak season with far less effort and can delegate tasks, Workers handle legacy header rewrites to avoid costly app changes, bot traffic is quickly blocked by WAF rules, and overall attack surface and latency have been reduced, improving security and performance.
