Case Study: SofaScore achieves faster real-time score updates and higher user engagement with Cloudflare

SofaScore Hits Big with Cloudflare

SofaScore is a Croatia-based sports app that provides real-time scores, player stats and analytics across 22 sports and hundreds of football leagues, serving over 15 million monthly active users. As the product and geographic footprint expanded (traffic and covered leagues grew more than tenfold), the company struggled to deliver consistently fast live updates in regions with poor mobile connectivity—most notably in South America—putting real-time accuracy and user experience at risk during high-traffic events.

To address this, SofaScore used Cloudflare (in place since 2015) and in 2018 integrated the Cloudflare Mobile SDK to measure network conditions and pinpoint regional issues, then enabled the ASAP acceleration module for critical domains and service calls. By monitoring the SDK dashboard and applying targeted acceleration, SofaScore improved in-app session engagement and the reliability of live score updates across regions, while benefiting from Cloudflare’s cost-effective security and predictable pricing as they scale.
