A Cloudflare Case Study
Quizlet, a study‑tool platform with more than 20 million monthly visitors, faced growing DDoS attacks and slow global performance because it served traffic from a single US region. As the site became a higher‑profile target, attacks began preventing students from accessing study materials, and Quizlet needed a way to both protect its site and deliver content quickly to an international audience.
Quizlet adopted Cloudflare’s bundled services—CDN, DNS, WAF, and DDoS mitigation—which immediately improved security and global performance by caching content at the edge and handling TLS closer to users. The deployment blocked malicious traffic before it hit Quizlet’s origin, lowered latency for international students, and reduced infrastructure needs. Results included more than a 50% cut to Google Cloud egress costs, about a 76% reduction in bandwidth (over 10 TB saved daily), and roughly 54% fewer servers required.
