OkCupid Helps People Find Love, While Cloudflare Bullet-Proofs Its Infrastructure

OkCupid, a leading free online dating service with millions of users and over one million app installs per week, needed to protect and scale its infrastructure while improving performance and lowering operating costs. The company sought stronger security, higher availability, faster page loads for global users, and reduced bandwidth usage as it grew.

OkCupid deployed Cloudflare’s integrated security and performance platform—global CDN, caching, edge SSL handshakes, and connection reuse—eventually replacing Akamai. The result was 100% clean traffic, about 80% bandwidth savings (roughly 349 TB saved), fewer servers, and major speed gains (˜30% faster on the U.S. West Coast and 50% faster in the U.K.), delivering high availability and lower costs.
