A Cloudflare Case Study
NiceHash is the world’s largest hash-power broker marketplace, connecting miners who sell computing power with buyers. After launch it became a frequent target of volumetric DDoS attacks: while its website and web sockets were already protected, its custom, revenue-generating TCP mining service suffered repeated high-volume attacks and even a nearly 10-hour outage, leaving the company exposed and in need of broader protection that wouldn’t add latency.
NiceHash moved its mining services behind Cloudflare Spectrum, extending Cloudflare’s DDoS mitigation to TCP/UDP traffic. The change immediately restored uptime for users, eliminated prolonged outages, and did so with negligible added latency, allowing NiceHash to protect and accelerate both its web assets and critical TCP protocol without impairing performance.
