Luma Health, a healthcare engagement platform used by over 500 health systems, launched a COVID‑19 vaccination operations solution to help clinics build patient journeys. Partnering with Cook County (population >5 million), the platform faced massive demand—peaking at roughly 500,000 requests per second—as hundreds of thousands of patients tried to schedule vaccines, check in, and receive reminders.

To manage the surge, Luma Health integrated Cloudflare’s Project Fair Shot Waiting Room in under 72 hours and combined it with Cloudflare Workers to control concurrent users and display accurate vaccine availability. The approach scaled to virtually unlimited demand and enabled more than 1.5 million vaccinations to be scheduled in Cook County, while Luma continues working with partners to improve access and address vaccine hesitancy.
