A Cloudflare Case Study
Liveblocks, a company enabling developers to embed real-time collaboration features into apps, faced challenges scaling its WebSocket servers and database storage using its initial AWS infrastructure. They needed a more scalable solution to support real-time collaborative use cases and turned to Cloudflare, specifically its Durable Objects product.
By building on Cloudflare's platform, Liveblocks utilized Durable Objects to create collaborative "rooms" with extremely low latency. The solution also incorporated Cloudflare R2, Queues, Workers KV, and WebSocket Hibernation. This allowed Liveblocks to scale to processing up to half a billion messages daily while controlling costs, avoiding the need to expand their engineering team by an estimated 40%, and delivering high-performance features like live cursors at 60 frames per second.
