How Replicated uses Cloudflare Access to develop remotely

Replicated, founded in 2014, builds Kubernetes Off-The-Shelf (KOTS) software to help enterprises install and operate third‑party applications. As the team grew, requiring each developer to run and troubleshoot local Kubernetes clusters became a major productivity drain—front‑end engineers without Kubernetes expertise frequently needed backend help, costing hours each week.

Replicated moved its entire development environment to IaaS and secured access with Cloudflare Access and Argo Tunnel, eliminating public IPs and open SSH ports and enabling BeyondCorp‑style authentication with Google credentials (no VPN required). The change reduced local troubleshooting, let engineers spin up multiple environments easily, protected code from laptop loss, and provided seamless, instantly revocable access from anywhere.
