Case Study: Hemnet achieves faster launches and maximized engineering resources with Cloudflare Workers

A Cloudflare Case Study

Preview of the Hemnet Case Study

How Hemnet uses Cloudflare Workers to maximize engineering resources

Hemnet, Sweden’s leading property portal used by millions each week, needed to create Utland—a dedicated section for buyers searching for properties outside Sweden where the user intent is research and local guidance rather than listing search. Because this behavior differs from their core product, Hemnet wanted a standalone, content-focused site for regional articles and broker listings without modifying their main Ruby on Rails platform or overloading engineering resources.

Hemnet built a static Gatsby site backed by Contentful and deployed it with Cloudflare Workers and Page Rules, leveraging Cloudflare’s global CDN, WAF, and DDoS protections. This serverless setup let a small product team launch Utland on the main domain quickly without touching the core codebase, saved significant engineering time, delivered fast performance, and blocks over 100,000 threats per month while avoiding vendor lock-in.
