Home Chef deploys Cloudflare Bot Management to stop attacks by credential-stuffing bots

Home Chef, a U.S. meal-kit delivery service serving roughly 220,000 customers weekly, experienced a sudden surge in sophisticated credential-stuffing bot attacks as demand doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their existing Cloudflare Pro setup and manual firewall rules could not keep pace with automated, IP-hopping bots, which degraded site performance and cost about $50,000 in lost productivity.

Home Chef upgraded to Cloudflare Enterprise and added Cloudflare Bot Management and Logs, which now blocks about 250,000 malicious bots per week, improved page load times by roughly 10% even as traffic nearly doubled, and freed the engineering team to focus on customers and product work. The Bot Score integration with application logs enhanced visibility, and Home Chef is exploring Cloudflare Workers for further optimization.
