A Cloudflare Case Study
Font Awesome is a widely used icon provider and SaaS CDN that serves thousands of icons across millions of websites. Rapid growth and the introduction of larger, more complex icon kits strained its infrastructure: origin servers became unresponsive, database connectivity faltered, and customers experienced instability, forcing Font Awesome to delay product releases.
Font Awesome adopted Cloudflare Load Balancing along with the Cloudflare API, Terraform Provider, and Workers to monitor origins, automatically route traffic, automate deployments, and cache a high‑traffic GraphQL API. The result was restored stability and scalability, a 60 ms average performance improvement, prevention of API crashes under heavy load, faster releases, and reduced operational stress for the team.
