FastMail, a premium email hosting provider in Melbourne serving individual and enterprise customers, aims to make email reliably accessible on any device. After a DDoS extortion threat in November 2015 exposed the risk that an outage of their DNS would prevent mail delivery, FastMail looked for a security partner to prevent future attacks and ensure messages are never lost.

FastMail deployed Cloudflare’s DNS Firewall as a reverse proxy, routing DNS traffic through Cloudflare’s global edge to block malicious requests and serve DNS even if FastMail’s origin is unreachable. The result is always-on DNS that prevents bounced mail, maintains reliable delivery, and gives FastMail the operational peace of mind they needed.
