Western Union Implements Enterprise Data Hub on its Path to Deliver an Omni-channel Customer Experience

Western Union, a global leader in cross-border money transfers, faced a surge of transactional data—processing an average of 29 transactions per second and handling vast structured and unstructured feeds from web, mobile, and retail channels. The company needed to unify these disparate data sources to deliver an omni-channel, personalized customer experience, improve real-time risk decisioning and AML compliance, and do so with performance, security, and cost-efficiency at scale.

Western Union implemented an enterprise data hub on Cloudera—standing up a production cluster in five months (64 nodes, ~100 TB and growing)—ingesting data via Flume, Sqoop and Informatica and securing it with Sentry, Kerberos and Navigator. The EDH enabled a 360-degree customer view, targeted offers (and a “Send Again” feature that boosted conversions), real-time risk and compliance decisions, faster transactional responses, and lower TCO, freeing resources for product innovation.
