Case Study: Vodafone Idea achieves unified, cost-efficient data operations with Cloudera

A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the Vodafone Case Study

Transforming telecom with data-driven efficiency

Vodafone Idea, one of India’s largest telecom providers serving about 220 million customers, needed to merge multiple data lakes and warehouses after the Vodafone-Idea merger. The company struggled with inconsistent data, high infrastructure costs, and strict regulatory and security requirements, making it hard to trust its data and operate efficiently at scale.

Cloudera helped Vodafone Idea build a unified on-premises data lakehouse using Cloudera’s platform, with support from Cloudera Professional Services. The migration consolidated disparate sources into a single source of truth, moved 12 petabytes of data with only 36 hours of downtime, and scaled to support hundreds of processing nodes; the result was $20 million to $30 million in savings, plus a 5x reduction in support tickets and over 80% less ticket volume.
