Case Study: Dell achieves near-real-time supply chain visibility and improved product quality with Cloudera Enterprise

A Cloudera Case Study

Preview of the Dell Case Study

Dell improving supply chain operations, product quality, and more with a modern data platform

Dell Inc., a global provider of PCs, servers and IT infrastructure, faced rapidly growing, high-velocity and multi-structured data from sensors, logs, web and application sources. Legacy relational systems left data siloed, ETL jobs slow, and IT unable to meet SLAs for real-time analytics or long-term archive requirements—prompting a need to store large volumes of diverse data, process streaming inputs in near real time, and converge analytics across marketing, supply chain, product quality and HR.

Dell implemented Cloudera Enterprise as a unified modern data platform—combining a data warehouse, operational database and queryable archive with technologies like Impala, HBase, Kafka and Flume—to ingest and analyze ~2.5 PB of raw data for thousands of users. The platform enabled near‑real‑time IoT and log processing, predictive maintenance, a 360° customer view, faster interactive analytics and an archival strategy that preserved historical data without costly upgrades, improving product quality, supply‑chain responsiveness and customer satisfaction.
