How Swisscom Consumes Its Own Cloud with Help from Cloud Foundry

Swisscom, the Swiss telecom company, needed a way to move away from a monolithic architecture that was becoming unstable under growing workload and slowing down deployments. Working with Cloud Foundry and its internal application cloud, Swisscom set out to modernize its legacy system while maintaining uptime and improving its ability to deliver digital services.

Cloud Foundry helped Swisscom implement a microservices-based, 12-factor, “strangling the monolith” approach using tools like the Cloud Foundry Nginx buildpack, Spring Cloud gateway, and service mesh. The result was a rebuilt CI/CD pipeline that reduced code changes from days or weeks to about five minutes from check-in to production, while enabling gradual canary releases and migration of more than 900 orgs, 6,000 apps, and 7TB of memory to the platform.
