How Bulbul Doubled CTRs With Personalized Recommendations

Bulbul is India’s first video commerce platform, launched in late 2018 to make shopping more accessible in smaller cities through short product videos created by local influencers. Built as a discovery-first app (released March 2019), Bulbul needed to understand feature performance and user behavior—what pages people viewed, how long they watched videos, and which actions led to purchases—while increasing engagement, freshness, and conversions.

Using CleverTap, Bulbul applied RFM-based segmentation, funnel and flow analytics, and personalized video recommendations (targeting users who watched similar videos in the past 2–3 days), alongside social features and gamification to drive repeat visits. The result: CTRs doubled and daily order value increased by 7%, with clearer insights into user journeys and improved retention and revenue.
