Fantasy Sports Platform Dream11 Retains 5x More Customers with Advanced User Insights

Dream11, founded in 2012, is India’s first single-match fantasy sports platform with 30M+ users and over 90% market share. The company faced the annual challenge of maximizing acquisition and engagement during the two-month IPL season and then retaining users afterward, all at massive scale—requiring timely, highly personalized messaging to millions of users within minutes while improving activation, brand recall, and marketing automation.

Using CleverTap’s Cohort Analysis, Journeys, and Flows, Dream11 identified that users who participated in one match were likelier to return and optimized onboarding and re-engagement accordingly. A/B tests showed afternoon notifications—sent a few hours before the 7:00 pm match and using a branded sound—drove the best response; targeted campaigns and refined UX led to 5x higher retention of new users and re-engagement of 70% of inactive users.
