How Medallia Launched an Elastic Self-Service Portal on Amazon Web Services

Medallia, a company that helps global brands improve customer experience, needed a better way to support its sales team’s product demos. Its demo environment had been hosted on traditional hardware in a data center, and operations staff had to manually provision environments and add capacity as demand grew. Medallia wanted a self-service portal that could scale to more than 300 simultaneous demo environments with zero latency and downtime.

Medallia partnered with ClearScale to build and launch a fully automated, elastic self-service portal on Amazon Web Services. ClearScale delivered the portal in two months, giving the sales team on-demand demo environments with snapshot, clone, start, stop, and restart capabilities, while helping the ops team save many weeks from each capacity cycle. The solution used AWS services including CloudFormation, SQS, Chef, EC2, RDS, and NetScaler to automate deployment and management.
