AQA, one of the UK’s major not‑for‑profit awarding bodies with around 900 employees and c.40,000 examiners, had an annual appraisal system that wasn’t delivering consistent feedback, clear goals or the hard data senior leaders needed. Senior HR/OD leaders identified siloed working, a hierarchical culture and low take‑up of optional goal‑setting (around 25%) as key issues and set a target to modernise performance management — selecting Clear Review’s continuous performance platform to replace the old annual appraisal with a simpler, data‑driven approach.
Clear Review implemented an intuitive solution for in‑the‑moment feedback, collaborative goals, regular check‑ins and high‑level reporting, and worked with AQA to adapt language and link activity to new behaviours and leadership habits. The result was rapid adoption and measurable change: well over two‑thirds of employees had goals set, AQA recorded more than 6,500 pieces of feedback in 12 months, senior leaders gained the hard data they wanted and HR shifted from “performance police” to enablers of development — with Clear Review’s platform central to that shift.
