Snohomish County, WA, Leverages Social Media During the Oso Mudslide

Snohomish County faced a major communications challenge during the deadly Oso mudslide, when public safety leaders needed to reach residents quickly with urgent news, instructions, and updates. Working with CivicPlus and its social media archiving service, the County turned to social media as a fast, central channel for crisis communication.

CivicPlus helped Snohomish County preserve and organize those emergency posts through a social media archiving solution and open archive, making it easier to respond to public records requests and review the response later. The effort supported more effective information sharing during the disaster, and the County has since handled more than 40 public information requests related to the landslide using the archived content.
