A CivicPlus Case Study
The City of Montrose, CO (pop. 20,000) needed a more manageable, flexible web presence to support a blended strategy of tourism promotion and resident attraction. Facing a cumbersome, self‑hosted open‑source CMS that created bottlenecks and limited content control, the City of Montrose partnered with CivicPlus to deploy the CivicEngage content management system and move to an externally hosted platform.
CivicPlus implemented CivicEngage with a redesigned, award‑winning site (Pinnacle Award 2008, Silver Circle, PTI award) and expanded the approach into an eight‑site community portal—City of Montrose, Visit Montrose, Montrose County, Montrose Economic Development Corporation, Montrose Pavilion, Downtown Development Authority, Montrose Recreation District, and the Chamber of Commerce—hosted on a single platform. The solution standardized branding, decentralized content management, eliminated internal hosting headaches, improved citizen and visitor engagement, aided recruitment of key employees, and kept Montrose on CivicPlus’s platform for nearly a decade.
