James City County Starts Fresh with CivicPlus County Website Design

James City County, VA needed to replace an outdated, hard-to-manage website built on a Dreamweaver template with a modern, mobile-friendly platform that better served residents. The county partnered with CivicPlus and its Municipal Websites CMS to redesign its site, organize content around citizen needs, and create a fresh digital presence that reflected the county’s history while improving usability.

CivicPlus implemented a responsive county website with self-service tools like Bid Postings and Form Center, enabling departments to manage their own content and streamlining key resident services. The results included thousands of dollars saved by moving bid packets online, 23 form submissions per day that reduced phone calls and office lines, and 11 awards for design, accessibility, transparency, and innovation, including a Governor’s Technology Award for Best Citizen Portal.
